Wet Rooms
Wet rooms are kind of like an open plan shower room. In a wet room, unlike a standard bathroom with a shower cubicle inside it that is closed off from the rest of the room, the shower is an open area. You can turn your entire bathroom into a wet room, adapt an existing shower room or simply have part of your bathroom boxed off into a wet room/walk in shower design.
The key thing to remember if you want a successful wet room is that this is a job best left to the experts. The wet room has to be made completely watertight via a process known as tanking as water will be able to flow freely around the room. You will also generally find that your wet room company may well also raise and slant the floor in the room for you. A slight incline here will encourage the water to run towards the waste outlet where it will drain away more effectively rather than just sitting in puddles on the floor.
It is also important to think about the ventilation in a wet room to help the floor dry out rather than staying damp. Many wet room manufacturers will recommend under floor heating which will be helpful in this. Finally, don't forget to make sure that the floor of your wet room is made from a suitably non slip material as more of the floor will get wet than in a standard bathroom.
